Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I drop off/pick up?
If your student is not taking the bus through the district then please try to carpool.
Cars enter the carpool loop on the north side of campus and stay to the right hand side. Move all the way forward before dropping off or picking up your student. Courtesy, patience, and slow driving are required for the safety of your student. Please review the Student Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures for all the Do’s and Don’ts.
If you need to pick up your student quickly, the best choice is to park on Las Virgenes Road either north or south of the school and have your student walk out to meet you.
How early can my student be at school? How late can I pick up?
While we suggest that you arrive early for drop off, there is no campus supervision for early arrivals prior to 8:30 A.M. Students may purchase breakfast beginning at 8:30 A.M. on school days. For pick-up, we suggest that you do NOT arrive before 3:10 P.M. [1:15 on Early Release Thursdays] because the students need time to get out to the carpool circle. The line-up of cars actually makes the process slower. Arrive around 3:15 [1:20], and it should go very smoothly (and you will be on your way in the same amount of time).
What is available for before and after school care?
The PFC offers two sessions of enrichment classes; one in the fall and one in the spring for a fee. In addition, the City of Calabasas offers an after school teen program at the Agoura Hills Calabasas Community Center, which provides a shuttle from AEW (pick up is on Las Virgenes Road south of the school). We are also working with the Community Center to provide before school care on the A.E. Wright campus. Please contact the Community Center for more information at (818) 880-2993.
What do I do if my child is absent?
Please call the attendance office voicemail system, (818) 880-4614 ext. 699, to report an absence on a daily basis. If no call is made, then a note signed by the parent/guardian is required stating the date(s) of and reason for absence. This process takes a bit more time, so please call whenever possible. Upon returning to school, the student must first report to the Attendance Office to get a readmit slip.
Please see the student handbook [in the front of the AEW Organizer] for complete information on student absences. For a pdf of the student handbook, click HERE.
What if I have to pick up early?
Please plan ahead and send a note with your student to give to the Attendance Office in the morning. The student will have a pass to meet you in the Attendance Office. You do need to come in AND sign your student out in the Attendance Office. You may come to the Attendance Office to arrange to have your student pulled from class, but please remember that this is very disruptive to the learning environment.
What if my child is sick and needs to come home from school?
A student who is ill MUST be checked out through the Health Office. Students may NOT text or call you directly from mobile phones to tell you they are not feeling well.
How do I contact my student’s teachers?
Each teacher has a voicemail/email that is listed on his or her Web page [see Teacher Directory]. In addition, when you call the main number (818) 880-4614, you can follow the directions to dial-by-name the teacher and access his or her voicemail. Many teachers regularly use their email addresses and prefer that for communication. Please allow 48 hours for the teacher to respond to your call or email. After 48 hours, please attempt a follow-up email or voicemail message before contacting the Main Office for assistance.
How do I get my Aeries log-in and password?
Parents of students new to LVUSD should receive the log-in at the beginning of the school year. Contact Ms. Sendyk in the Counseling Office, (818)880-4614 ext. 289, for help with password issues.
Where do I bring items my student forgot?
While we strongly suggest that students take responsibility for their school work, P.E. clothes, instruments, and lunches, there are occasions when something needs to be brought to the Main Office. We can accept lunches and non-valuables in the Main Office. Items cannot be delivered to students. We can make an announcement during lunch to call your student in for the pick-up.
What if I need to get a message about pick up to my child?
Students may not have their mobile phones on during school hours. There is no texting, messaging, or calling to or from school during school hours, including lunch. Please see the Student Handbook [in the AEW Organizer] regarding the cell phone policy and discipline. For a pdf of the student handbook, click HERE.
Please plan ahead and discuss pick-up with your student, especially if different from your usual plan. If you need to communicate a change to your student, please call the Attendance Office, (818) 880-4614 ext. 226, as soon as possible. When a note is given to a student during class time, it interrupts instruction. Please reserve this option for urgent needs only.
Where do I send medical notes?
All medical notes and medicines, even over-the-counter drugs, must be brought to the Health Office with the proper paperwork signed by your physician. There are some exceptions allowing a student to carry items, such as epi-pens, diabetic supplies and inhalers, but the proper paperwork must be submitted and carried with the item(s).
Notes regarding health matters that impact P.E. participation should be given to the student’s P.E. teacher. Please see the Handbook for complete information on when a doctor’s note is required for excused absences and exemption from participation.
When should parents call the counselor, the assistant principal, or the principal?
First of all, concerns with teachers must first be addressed to the teacher. Please allow 48 hours for the teacher to respond. After 48 hours, please attempt a follow-up email or voicemail message before contacting the Main Office for assistance.
If you have a concern regarding discipline or campus safety, please call the Assistant Principal's Office. Safety is a top concern of A.E. Wright, and we want to take every step to ensure a proper learning environment.
Absolutely! Styles that are unduly revealing or expose underwear (including bra straps) are not allowed. This includes but is not limited to “see through” clothing, very low cut tops or bottoms, short shorts, bikini tops, sagging pants, undershirts worn alone, tube tops, and tops that do not cover bra straps or with inappropriate pictures, letters, words or symbols. Spaghetti straps are not allowed! Shorts and skirts must be long enough so that when one’s arms are straight at one’s sides, the tip of the student’s thumb does not exceed the length of the garment . For safety reasons, flip flops, spiked heels, slippers, and shoes with heels higher than 2” are not allowed. Please see the Handbook for the complete information on Dress Code policies and discipline.
