Our curriculum in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English is literature based with a necessary foundation in and connection to the Common Core State Standards in English language arts. The Common Core Standards are divided into four strands: Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening, and Language. The Reading strand includes Reading Literature [RL], Reading Informational Text [RI], and Foundational Skills [RF]. Please see the link below to learn more about the CCSS and plans for the state assessments currently set for implementation in 2014.
AEW students will have a rich experience integrating various genres of literature and a variety of informational texts with writing, speaking, listening, critical thinking, research, projects, vocabulary, spelling, and grammar (usage, mechanics, and structure). Students will write for different purposes and use technology to produce and publish their writing.
